Young Survivors

As a young woman diagnosed with ovarian cancer, you are facing a different set of challenges than a woman who might be diagnosed later on. Nearly 70,000 adolescent and young adults (AYA) are diagnosed each year with some form of cancer and your challenges as an AYA with ovarian cancer can feel very different than your older counterparts.

More information specific to young survivors can be found on the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund Alliance (OCRFA) site: Young Women

Young Survivor Support

COCA partners with the Young Survivors Group: GET + TOGETHER, facilitated by Melissa Gilstrap, MS, CGC (Certified Genetic Counselor) that meets the first Thursday evening of the month at a local restaurant.

"Being diagnosed with cancer in your 20s and 30s is very different than being diagnosed in middle age or later.  The Young Survivors Support Group was started in 2010 to provide a place for young survivors during any phase of their treatment (just diagnosed, during treatment, and post-treatment) to be with other people who truly get what they are going through."

The meeting takes place at a local restaurant with a casual and friendly atmosphere. Generally, some food and refreshments are provided by sponsors; items are also available to order off the menu.

To learn more and register, call Melissa at her office (303-269-4348) or cell phone (303-521-2650).
