DOD Ovarian Cancer Research Program Consumer Reviewer

Dear Friends,

Thanks for expressing interest in the Department of Defense (DOD) Ovarian Cancer Research Program (OCRP) when you visited the display at the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance Conference last month. I would like to follow up and provide you with additional information about how you can apply to serve as a consumer reviewer for the OCRP for future peer review opportunities. We are always building a strong pool of consumer reviewers for future opportunities and I encourage you to apply.

As you know, we recruit ovarian cancer survivors with an interest in science who are active with an ovarian cancer support, outreach, advocacy, or educational organization to serve as consumer reviewers at scientific peer review. In FY12, the DOD OCRP has been awarded 16 million dollars for ovarian cancer research. Consumer reviewers serve together with scientist reviewers, to help determine which research applications submitted to the DOD will be funded.

Please review the attached materials. They include:

A Consumer Reviewer Brochure developed by the DOD to explain the consumers’ role
An e-nomination form that you and your nominating organization should complete and return via email, fax, or hard copy in the mail as you prefer.

[The form describes what should be included in a letter of nomination from your nominating organization and in your personal essay about your work in advocacy or support for others living with ovarian cancer.]
A letter with additional information about this program for you and your nominating organization.

Although the nomination deadline has passed, we are building the pool of consumer reviewers for future opportunities and I encourage you to apply.

In addition, I encourage you to explore the CDMRP Website to learn more about the program. Specific information about the importance of consumer reviewers in the peer review process can be found here. We are always accepting nominations for future service opportunities.
